You must be aged 18 years or over, live in the UK and have a personal Email address to join. All family members can be included, as we test all product types; baby, toddler, teenage and adult.
We test all types of cosmetic and toiletry products; shampoos, shower gels, anti-ageing creams, facial washes, eye make-up remover wipes. The types of products you receive depend on your age, skin type and the products you usually use.
This depends on what samples are available. We will endeavour to include you in at least two trials a year. However, this depends on samples being available for testing.
We appreciate that there are times when you may be too busy, on holiday or simply do not want to try a sample. Please be assured that you are under no obligation to try any sample and can decide not to try a sample without prejudice.
How long do I have to be a member
There is no minimum or maximum membership time. You can be a panel member for as little or as long as you wish.
If you wish to leave you simply login to our secure site and delete all the member(s) you have added. This is a very simple process and will only take a matter of moments.
We are registered with the Information Commissioner under the Data Protection Act. Your details are confidential and will not be passed to any other party. All information provided by you when completing sample questionnaires will be reported anonymously.
The samples have not been tested on animals.
Samples will be provided with full instructions, we usually ask you to try samples on at least five occasions.
Yes, all samples have been evaluated for safety prior to use by our volunteers. However, if you know you are allergic or sensitive to many products we would recommend that you do not join the TheLitmusTest.com.
All you need is a connection to the internet and an email account, any computer should be suitable.
We will only contact you by Mail, E mail or telephone.
Once I've joined what happens next
Once you become a Litmus Test member you are eligible to take part in trials. When you are selected to take part in a trial you will receive an E mail titled “Invitation to take part in a Litmus Test trial.”
This invitation will ask you to click on a link and complete a brief online survey. This survey will give details of the trial and ask whether you would like to take part, you will also be asked for your FamilyID number (this can be found on website by clicking “your details” to access Family and Member Maintenance page, FamilyID number is detailed in the top box of this page).
If you respond that you would like to take part in the trial you will be notified by E-mail when the trial sample is mailed.
When you receive the sample, follow instructions detailed in the letter enclosed with the sample. At the end of the trial you will receive an E-mail titled “Trial questionnaire.” This E-mail will ask you to click on a link to complete a survey once you have finished trying the sample.
